  1. Connect your device

Connect your Bicino via usb to your computer via usb cable.

Choose “USB JTAG/serial debug unit” in the browser popup. If several appear, unplug other ESP32 devices. Connecting checks your device; it doesn’t install an update.

USB updates require a desktop browser with Web Serial. Open this page in desktop Chrome or Edge. Safari, iPhone and iPad are not supported.

  • Use a USB data cable and desktop Chrome or Edge. Close serial monitors and other browser tabs that may be using the device.
  • If the port is missing, disconnect USB, hold the board’s BOOT button, and reconnect USB while holding BOOT. Release it after the port appears. Use the labeled button on the board; do not guess from an enclosure button.
  • The 1.75-inch model is selected by default. For another model, use Advanced settings above. A shared ESP32 USB name cannot identify the screen model.
  • Keep power and the cable connected during writing. If interrupted, return to BOOT mode, select the same signed rescue release, and inspect again to retry. The screen may stay black until recovery completes.

Which update path should I use?

OTA: routine updates through the owner app. USB recovery: replace firmware while preserving ownership and maps. Partition migration: a separately qualified package that changes storage and explains any map restore. Factory reset: a separate operation that removes user state; it is never an automatic recovery step.

Partition migration, first installation on blank devices, and factory reset are not enabled here yet. Existing production firmware may not expose USB boot status; flash verification alone is not proof that the device booted.
